My Wife Is a Natural Teacher.

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Today is Dang’s first day of teaching; she has one reading class today. Last night, she worked so very hard. She planned, and practiced, practiced, practiced. I would be her students, and she would take notes from my reactions.

She’s doing a story about the Boston Tea Party, and, let me tell you, it’s really good. Was it good from the beginning? Yes, but there was room for improvement, and improve is exactly what she did.

We woke up early this morning, and she wanted to read first thing. Now, that’s dedication. She read, without any coaching from me, and “nailed” it. Really. She’s got it, but she’s nervous.

Last night, she was excited. This morning, she’s afraid. That’s natural.

Mama, it’s o.k. to be afraid, but find that excitement again. You are going to do something that you can feel very good about. You are going to be doing something that I already see a natural ability in you for. You are going to do something that you have a future in.

I truly believe that my wife’s a natural. I have to work on teaching, for I have a classic case of impatience with children, but not my wife. She’s understanding, caring, and long-enduring….

She has a talent for teaching. Like I said, she’s a natural.

Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Morgan Has Power… He Will Keep Us Safe!

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Friday, I was paid one of the greatest compliments that I’ve ever recieved from anyone by my youngest students, and that was, “Mr. Morgan has power, he will keep us safe.”

Sure, I don’t hear that everyday, even though I would like to. Heres’t the story:

The children are goinig to a Halloween party on Monday. The teacher was trying to explain this to our youngest kids (5 and 6 years old), and it was going over very well, for, this being Korea, Halloween isn’t common-place. So, the teacher said, “We’re going to a haunted house,” thinking this would be the easiest way to impart at least some knowledge of the events to them.

Well, when they heard this they became neverous and scared. I’m 31, and they still scare me a bit. Anyway, they were feeling some fright about the haunted house, and the were looking for a way out. Then, they asked the question, “Is Mr. Morgan going to go with us?”

After the teacher answered, “Yes,” they calmed down, The children told the teacher, “If Mr. Morgan is going, we will be safe. He has power and can protect us.”

Needless to say, this was a great compliment to me. Here, I find myself in a foreign land, and the students I teach have come to trust me enough to feel that I can and will keep them from harm. Even greater than that is the fact that they wish for me to keep the safe.

Thank you Red class for your trust. I will try my best to ensure that it isn’t misplaced.

I’m a Blessed Man… Even When Shopping for Socks.

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it agin, ” I can’t believe how my life has turned out.”

Yesterday, as Dang and I were out and about, I was walking behind her (because it was very crowded… too crowded to walk side-by-side), and she would look back with a smile every once-in-a-while. It was then, as it happens so often, that I was struck by the realization that I’m so very lucky.

Day in and day out, I get to spend my free time with the woman who is surely my soul-mate. In the time we spend together, we laugh, play, and talk about everything (even our deepest, most guarded secrets).

This woman not only keeps me from being lonely, she deepens the meaning and satisfaction of my life.

Often, I’ve heard the question posed, “Would you miss that which you never experienced?” For example, “What if you never met Dang? Would you still miss her?” My answer to that is, “Yes.”

See, I missed her before I ever met her. In my heart, I could feel the need for her. And, I believe that I was not simply longing for a mate, I was longing for her. Not only is there no other that can make my life as full as she, there never has been another possibility, other than her (even before we met almost four years ago).

Does it seem like I meandered way off topic from a glace on a date to eternal knowledge of your soul mate? Well, I didn’t. Here’s why: Even a glace back from her while shopping for socks has deep meaning and moves me. I can feel her energy, and being around her is like being around electrically-charged ozone.

Maybe, saying “I’m a lucky man” isn’t a true enough expression. Perhaps, it should be…

I’m a blessed man.

The first week in Korea, I and Dee went shopping for my cloths. I have 20 kilograms loaded on the plane. So, I have to buy new clothes.

After Dee finished working, we went shopping at Gangnam Underground Shopping Center. I can say I love to shopping here!!!! Not expensive at all. What do you want you can find it here (Even hand some man, he holding my hand. Hah!)

They are some cute furnitures, it can make you feel like you are the princes in a small palace. Cooking utensils weren’t too many but you can find some. There were so many beautifully flowers and roses. If you falling in love some one you can buy the flowers here…But I don’t care! I care cloths and shoes only (hehehehe).

There are some clothes and shoes that I bough for Gangnam.

Going Home.

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

After we are were married on July 29, 2008 (actually, just married registration in Thailand), my husband, Dee, had to go back to Korea because he could only stay in Thailand one week on his vacation.

About six weeks after Dee flew back to Korea, I resigned from my work in Thailand and prepared to move to Korea to be with my husband. I was working in a government organization. I took time for my resignation and moved my stuff from Bangkok to my home in the south. I had been in Bangkok about nine years (Sure, it was a lot of stuff to move).

I prepared all needed documents and went to Korean Consulate to get my F-3 visa. It took about 3 days for my visa to go through.

During my time in the south, I spent time with my family, especially my little niece (Bam) and nephews (Game and Binn). Bam needed lots of kisses from her aunt, and Game needed lots of khanome from me (hehehe).

I flew to Korea on October the 11th, 2008, leaving Bangkok @ 8:25 a.m. and arrived in Seoul @ 9:27 p.m. The flight was long, having laid-over in Taiwan. The lay-over was approximately three hours. But, no worries! I killed the time by viewing the photo exhibition that was in the airport.

This wasn’t my first time to fly internationally. It was my second, actually, so, by now, I’m an “old pro.” This time, I knew exactly what I was doing. This time, just to prove how much I’ve matured as a world traveler, I wasn’t afraid to go to the bath room on the plane (all by myself). Hah!

I should mention, as a quick note, that I flew with China Air, and they impressed me much, for I was taken very good care of. I can still remember the hostess’ smile. For a Thai, this is very important.

And then…

And then…

And then…

O.k, I can tell, it’s time to bring this to a climax….

And then, I arrive in Korea (my home for the next year or so). Immigration was no problem. This time, there were no worries, for I had my husband and my visa this time.

I was feeling a little nervous, however, because they said that we were to exit at door C, but the luggage was to be claimed next to B. There were very few people walking with me to B (I imagine because they were Koreans with very little luggage); this is what was making me nervous. Even though I was “pro” by then, I was still a little unsure of myself. So, I walked very fast. If I had walked any faster, I would have been running. Fortunately, I was right, and I exited at B.

After exiting, lo and behold, my husband was right too, for he was at B waiting for me! This is the moment I had been waiting for. We were just married, and we had to say goodbye for ten weeks. Even though it was just ten weeks, the distance of time and space felt great. It felt like ten years and ten million kilometers.

I was home!

River cruise on Han river/Ttukseom Resort

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

July 6, 2008.

After we had lunch with Dee’s friends (Clike here to read), we went back to the apartment and took a nap. Then we opened the Korea travel guide to find on the map how to get to the river cruise.

To get to the Han river cruise, take subway number 7 and get off at Ttukseom Resort station.

Before we left the apartment, I felt a little sick. It seemed more cold than other days, but it wasn’t a big deal (I’m a tough Mama!!!).
